The City of Colfax’s next regularly-scheduled election will be held in November 2024. At this election, Colfax voters will elect 2 City Council members for full 4-year terms. In addition, voters may have the opportunity to vote on a measure. Look for more details regarding the election in the Spring of 2024.
- A person must be 18 years of age and a citizen of the state at the time of his or her election. (Government Code §1020)
- A person must be a resident of City of Colfax and a registered voter of the City to run for a seat on the City Council at the time nomination papers are issued. (Elections Code §201) Any person while mentally incompetent or imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony is disqualified from voting. (Government Code §1021)
- A person is disqualified from holding any office upon conviction of designated crimes as specified in the Constitution and laws of the State. (Government Code §1021) (Constitution Article VII Sections 8-10 includes disqualification for crimes such as libel, slander, bribery, perjury, etc.)
- No person may file nomination papers for more than one office at the same election. (California Elections Code §8003b)
Running for Office
Placer County offers workshops to give an overview of the election process to potential candidates for the upcoming election.
The first step in the process to become a Candidate is to meet with the City Clerk during the nomination period – Early-July 2024 through Early-August 2024. Call City Hall (530-346-2313) or email email@example.com to schedule an appointment (plan for about 1 hour). Once you have completed the forms and nomination petition, you will schedule a second 1 hour appointment with the City Clerk to declare your candidacy.
