A summary of major land development projects in Colfax is provided on this page. Projects are categorized by status in the review process as follows:
Preliminary Review – Conceptual development proposals for which a prospective project proponent would like to obtain non-binding input at a public meeting of the City Council prior to proceeding with preparation of detailed plans and formal land use applications.
In Planning Process – A formal and use entitlement application has been filed and is in the review process.
Planning Approvals Granted – Land use entitlement application(s) for the project have been approved and are in effect.
In Plan Check – Land use entitlement application(s) for the project have been approved and construction drawings have been submitted to the City for review.
Under Construction – The project has local, and as may be required, county, state, and federal approvals, building permits have been issued and construction may be undertaken.
Inactive – Action by the applicant is required and more than six months has passed since request for action was made by the City.

Colfax Net Cell Tower
Maidu Village Commercial Center
The Maidu Village commercial development is an 8.4 acre project located on S. Auburn Street at the West bound on ramp to I-80. As approved by the City Council in December 2018, the project includes an ARCO service station with mini-mart and drive-through, car wash, two restaurants (one fast food, one sit-down), 3,500 sq. ft. commercial pad, a coffee kiosk, and a 3 story 70 room hotel. The site will also include one access segment of the proposed roundabout at the S. Auburn St/I-80 interchange.
Sierra Oaks Estates
Sierra Oaks Estates is a 34-home subdivision planned to be a unique single-family neighborhood targeting, but not restricted to, empty nesters with the focus on foothill living in a minimal development footprint. The neighborhood will have private roads and a gated entry. Although the entire perimeter of the project will be fenced, individual lots will not have fences and property lines between houses will not be emphasized. The neighborhood will include a pedestrian trail system which will meander through the trees and open spaces. The homes are proposed t range between 1,900 and 2,400 square feet, offering one- and two- story floor plans with primary living zones on the street level.

Village Oaks Community
The Village Oaks Communities tentative subdivision map was approved by the City Council in February 2018. The project consists of 39 single family homes on 13 acres with lots ranging in size from 6,400 to 8,500 square feet. Homes are planned to be 1,600 to 2400 square feet. The development will be gated with private streets.
Gordan’s Gym
Gordan’s Gym, located at 159 S. Auburn, is requesting to develop a 7,000 square-foot gym/fitness facility. This process will include a Design Review Permit and Variance to reduce side and rear setbacks and parking requirements.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Store
O’Reilly Auto Parts Store, located at 781 S Auburn, was approved by the City Council July 24, 2024, to construct a 6,890 square-foot retail store on a 0.768-acre site. This project is currently in the building permit review process
Whitcomb Avenue Office and Self-storage facility
The Whitcomb Avenue project was approved in November 2018, includes development of a corporation yard to be used as headquarters for a general engineering firm on the upper portion of the 3.0 acre parcel and an outdoor (RVs, travel trailers, etc.) self-storage facility on the lower portion. The project will be developed in phases with phase one consisting of a modular office building (approximately 2,100 sq. ft.) and a 2,000 sq. ft. shop.
The self-storage facility will be located on 1.5+ acres, will be fenced and gated and will operate as a self-serve type of facility.
