Colfax Railroad Days Returns September 12 & 13, 2026
COLFAX, CA — Trains, history, live demonstrations and family fun return to historic downtown Colfax as Colfax Railroad Days takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 12 & 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Celebrating Colfax’s rich railroad heritage and its important connection to the Transcontinental Railroad, the two-day event brings together railroad history, living-history demonstrations, family activities and entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Railroad enthusiasts can explore 10 model train displays along with the Union Pacific Experience, featuring department displays and rolling stock. Visitors can also take a ride on handcars presented by the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum or climb aboard a free train ride sponsored by Rigid Roofing.
History will come alive throughout the weekend with an on-site blacksmith demonstration, an 1840s pioneer camp presented by the Mormon Battalion and Old West action from the Black Flag Gang Gunslingers.
The historic Colfax Theatre will host performances of “Gunpowder Man” on both Saturday and Sunday, bringing another piece of Sierra railroad history to the weekend’s celebration.
Families will find plenty to enjoy, including a free Kids Zone with crafts and games, Highland cows from Grizzly Mountain Minis and baby goats from Sunny Days Farms.
Railroad Days will also provide opportunities to honor members of the U.S. military. On Saturday at 10 a.m., the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will hold a POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony.
On Sunday, American Legion Post 192 will hold a special ceremony to kick off its “Stuff the Train” holiday collection, gathering items for active-duty U.S. military members serving overseas.
With trains, animals, history, demonstrations, entertainment and activities throughout downtown, Colfax Railroad Days offers a weekend of discovery and fun while celebrating the railroad heritage that helped shape the community.
